Just because many of us practically live at our desks, doesn’t mean it has to look that way.    It’s a little too easy to let the clutter build up as the work piles on, and it doesn’t take an expert to know a messy office isn’t ideal for productivity.  Now a days, a majority of our work stays stored in our computer, but everything else from paper clips and pens to snacks and pictures, shouldn’t cause chaos across your desk.  Whether it’s your home office or your cubicle at work, here are some creative, environmental-friendly ideas for storage in your workspace.  Because everyone knows, here at EthoSource, we’re all about a green way to make your office look great without spending too much, so let us help.

Recycling at its Best

Inspiration for office storage can come from any room in the house.  Recycle your empty cans and jars from the kitchen to create storage compartments.   Old paint cans can also be great, especially for those bigger storage items.  Remove the labels and save the tin or glass jar for a neat container to store pencils and pens.  Use various sizes for paper clips, rubber bands or tacks.  The glass see-through look is not only neat, but convenient to know exactly which items are in which jar.  Paint or decorate the tin too for a personalized look that matches your office color scheme or labels what you pan to keep inside.

Divide and Conquer

If it’s the inside of your desk drawers that need some organization help, your extra pans or baking sheets may come in handy.  Get some more use out of those old trays by using them as separators inside your drawers to spare yourself the hassle of diving into a pile of clutter every time you need a stamp or piece of gum.  Consolidate each pan or muffin tray crevice for mailing items, writing utensils, and junk drawer essentials.

Not Just For Coffee

For additional storage containers, cups or mugs may be just the things to decorate your desk with little effort to you.  Whether you’re a diehard movie buff or love pictures of your kids all over your desk, get the mug that has the look you want and fill it with your office accessories.  Slap a tag on the handle to label different contents in a neat way.  The possibilities with cup designs and shapes are endless, so everyone can find something to match their style.

 Hang It Up

Maybe your desk has enough stuff on it, and so you don’t really want to fill the very last bit of space you have left with another storage container.  There are lots of cool ways to hang your storage bins, so they’re off your desk, but you’re not tripping over them either.  Invest in a few hooks from your local arts and crafts store and attach them to old rulers, picture frames, or anything you can think of to match your office theme.  Get creative.  Use the hooks and screws to hang up the same old paint cans or containers you collected for your desktop for another alternative.  If you’re just hoping to pin up important papers or pictures, hang old clipboards or paperclips and double-sided magnets for an original way to pin stuff up.   If you’re working from an office cubicle, the great thing about Ethospace is the different panels that can accommodate your storage needs.  Get a cork board, whiteboard, fabric, wood, or glass panels in the spaces you need in order to pin up or drill in your hanging storage solutions.
