On the 5th Day of Office Tips…

The holiday season is crazy… pure madness at times.  You’re trying to stay productive so you get all your work finished when you need to while your mind is preoccupied by Christmas gifts and holiday plans.  It’s a sensation overload.  Before it all spirals out of control, take our advice on this one.  On the 5th Day of Office Tips, EthoSource said to me… RELAX!

5th Day of Christmas

Relax?! Are you crazy?? No, we aren’t crazy, we’re serious!  Around this time, you’re probably thinking that’s impossible, but hear us out.  First off, step away from the technology.  We know it’s tempting on your work break to turn to social media or online shopping for those last minute gifts, and we know sometimes you just have to do it, but it’s especially important in the holiday season to give yourself a break… like an actual break.

Take advantage of your little time off to step away from the computer and relax.  This will help you from wasting time getting lost in the internet realm, and even help keep you from being more concerned about what tropical island the Jones’ are vacationing at this holiday, and more focused on the things you have to be happy for.  Researchers ahve shown that people tend to feel more dissatisfied with themselves after scanning social media than before.  So why bring yourself down!? The holidays are a time to reflect on what is really important to us, so go on and mingle with coworkers, admire the office decorations, think about what you’re thankful for.  Anything!  (as long as it doesn’t involve your computer or phone :))

This applies to when you’re at home too!  Turn off the email notifications that have you constantly thinking about work.  Check your inbox ONCE the Christmas movie with the family is over, not during.  Limit your time on things that will stress you out.  We’re not telling you to work less, we’re just advising that you make the most of your time away from work.  Work hard when you need to, but step away from it all when you can.  This will help you be more productive and focused when your head is to the grind stone AND enjoy the holidays much more!  Trust us, you can do it!
