On the 3rd Day of Office Tips…

It’s on almost every New Year’s Resolutions list: be healthier. And for a lot of us, it doesn’t stick.  But it’s not our fault!  With long days in the office, who has time or energy to get to the gym or make that exotic kale recipe you’ve been reading about.  Well the good news is the office furniture industry has been working on how to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into your workday, so you can worry less about how to stick to your resolution all year long while getting your work done.   Knowing this, our next tip just makes sense.  On the 3rd day of office tips, EthoSource said to me…. take advantage of ergonomics!

3rd Day of Christmas

Ergonomics are EVERYWHERE in the world of office furniture, so there’s really no reason to not be reaping all the wonderful benefits.  We know all the harmful effects of a sedentary lifestyle, and experts say that even a post-work gym session can only do so much to reverse them, so your best bet is making healthy changes in the workplace! But how?! (you may ask)  Well, you can start with your chair!

Ergonomic office chairs are not only a good idea, they’re basically essential for anyone who sits more than 2 hours each day (and that is quite a few of us).  From adjustable arm rests, seat back tilt and lock, breathable mesh fabrics, lumbar support, and so much more, there’s something for every body style and type.  These features can make the difference between poor posture for the rest of your life and a much more efficient employee each and every day.

Your chair isn’t the only important thing to consider.  You should also be getting out of that chair as much as possible.  But from one busy worker to another, I know that isn’t always easy.  I’m not referring to getting away from your desk to run a couple laps out in the company warehouse.  I’m talking about getting out of your chair to simply stand up!  Height adjustable desks and tables are HUGE in terms of breaking the sedentary mold.  Going from sit to stand and vice versa is super important for blood flow, which benefits your muscles, digestion and even brain power! It’s as simple as changing your work position from time to time throughout the day.  Treadmill desks are also a great way to get moving while you work and can provide tremendous health benefits with little effort.

Accessories are another way to make the most of office ergonomics.  From LED lighting that is less strenuous on your eyes to flexible monitor arms that help your posture and accommodate your specific work needs.
