Color Forecasts for Your Office Furniture

The new trends for office furniture focus on a healthy, happy office, and color is definitely part of that.

Major players in interior decor worldwide are bringing out their 2013 forecasts now, so we can see what’s ahead for trendy decorating.

Do we have to pay attention to trends when we decorate our workspaces? We don’t have to, but there are some benefits to doing so. Choosing trendy colors gives us an up to date look that subtly conveys to staff and clients that we’re on top of things. It’s easier to find coordinating items like lamps and lobby artwork if we go with the flow, in terms of color fashions. And our own brand colors can look fresh and new in contrast to the season’s trendy colors.

Blues and greens

The first big trend we’re seeing for 2013 is a strong return to cool colors. This is good news for workspaces: while bright, warm shades like yellow can up creativity, they also tend to make people feel irritable. Calming blues and greens can make for more peaceful offices.

This season is mixing up blue and green in shades like jade and using near neutrals like gray blues and gray greens. These will be the trending colors for more conservative office spaces. Deep emerald green and Monaco Blue give an upscale look to waiting rooms and lobbies.

Flower colors

Along with the continuing importance of sustainability, a green outlook, and natural materials, we’ll also see bright, clear flower colors like the spring green and violet in the picture above. Warm, spicy pinks and Poppy Red are showing up in home decor, and they can look great in an office, too, if the look isn’t too feminine for your company.

Bright colors give an air of fun and playfulness in a workspace, and can encourage people to think outside the box.new research also suggests that being surrounded by natural colors can have some of the same positive health effects as actually being outdoors.

Black is not the new black

Black can look sleek, powerful, and expensive, but it doesn’t look new this season. Multiple shades of gray, warm browns, and near-neutrals from violet-gray to gold are all showing up in the color forecasts of paint companies and decorators.

Of course, black is a perennial, and it’s never really out of style. Coffee brown or midnight blue will look fresher this year, though.
