READING, Pa. – Two new members were appointed to the Alvernia University board of trustees on Dec. 9, the university announced Wednesday. The new trustees are John Gallen Jr., Owner and President of Ethosource and Wyatt Seating, and Khalid N. Mumin, Ed.D., Superintendent of the Reading School District.
“John and Khalid have proven track records of professional leadership and civic engagement in the Greater Reading community,” said Alvernia University board of trustees chairperson Michael Fromm. “As we move forward with our new strategic plan and continued work on the Reading CollegeTowne initiative, their insights will be invaluable to the future success of Alvernia University.”
Gallen is the owner and president of Ethosource, LLC, a Reading Based office furniture manufacturer and dealer, and Wyatt Seating, an office seating manufacturer. He has led both companies from small startups to thriving businesses that also serve their community by providing office furniture for several Reading-area nonprofits.

Gallen has served on the boards of the YMCA of Reading and Berks County, Greater Reading Economic Partnership, Caron Foundation and United Way of Berks County, and served his community as a Wyomissing Borough councilperson for four years and Finance Committee chairperson for the past 13 years. He also currently serves on Alvernia’s President’s Advisory Council.
Gallen has been recognized by the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance as a two-time Entrepreneur of the Year and has earned several awards for his community service by Safe Berks, Easy Does It, the Caron Foundation and the YMCA of Reading and Berks County. He attended Villanova University graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in languages and linguistics.
For the last 24 years, Mumin has served in various capacities as a teacher, dean of students, principal and central administrator. As Reading School District’s Superintendent, he has been instrumental in the growth of Alvernia University’s Reading College Scholars College Readiness Program at Reading High School. His continued transformational leadership recently earned him the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators’ 2021 Superintendent of the Year Award after previously being named one of the National School Public Relations Association’s Superintendents to Watch in 2016.
“I am elated to serve on Alvernia’s board of trustees with evenly yoked influential leaders, responsible with the tasks of researching, examining and recommending the highest quality of educational programming for all students attending Alvernia University,” said Mumin.
Mumin serves as an adjunct professor for Shippensburg University and Penn State University and has served on the boards of Habitat for Humanity, Greater Reading Economic Partnership, United Way of Berks County, Berks Arts Council, YMCA of Berks County and Berks Community Action Program.
Mumin earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education in Teaching & Curriculum from Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Shippensburg University, and an Associate of Arts in English from Northeastern Christian Junior College. He also graduated from the Leadership Maryland Program as a member of the Class of 2012.
